Frequently asked questions
Practical details about tuning, timing and looking after your piano.
Most pianos benefit from tuning at least once a year. Instruments used heavily for teaching or performance may need more frequent visits.
Many long-neglected pianos can be brought back to life, but they may require a pitch raise and careful assessment of their condition. You’ll always receive honest advice about what’s realistic.
A standard tuning usually takes around 60–90 minutes, depending on the instrument and its condition.
Please ensure the piano is accessible, with enough space to work and minimal background noise. Avoid moving the piano immediately before a visit if possible.
Digital pianos don’t require tuning in the same way as acoustic instruments. However, advice can be given on maintenance and when it might be time to consider an acoustic piano.
